Controller
The following person operates the website treemulator.org and is therefore the controller within the meaning of the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), hereinafter the operator. The section “Transfer of data” states when data leaves the user’s device and who receives it. The privacy policy describes the scope of the operator’s responsibility under data protection law.

Purpose of this app
Treemulator is used to plan and document plantings in the forest. The app records planting areas, tree species and protection material and manages the dates for inspection, tending and collecting the guards. The app runs entirely in the user’s browser. The privacy policy describes how the data is processed, the page Method and sources the calculation and its sources.
Transfer of data
Treemulator stores the information you record only in the browser on your device. Data leaves your device only in the following cases and only goes to the recipients named.
- “Share areas”: Treemulator creates a file with the details of the areas you select. The project name and the name you enter as sender are added. Owners and notes can be left out. Only the recipients you choose yourself receive the file. The file is sent via your own email program or a messenger of your choice. The terms of the email or messenger service you use apply to the sending. Treemulator itself transfers nothing in the process and the operator is not informed of it.
- Public Treemulator map: only if you choose “Also send to the public Treemulator map” when sharing do you also send an email to the operator. This email contains an extract with the outline, size and planting year of the areas, the tree species, the number and material of the guards, the number of guards and stakes still in the forest and the planned collection year. The area name, forest district, owners, notes, history and planning are not included. The operator also receives your email address and the name you enter as sender. The operator adds the areas to the public map, where they are visible to everyone.
- Emails to the operator: with “Report an error”, with reports of security vulnerabilities and with enquiries, the operator receives your email address and the content of your message. “Report an error” adds only the selected category and the app version.
- Third-party services: for the map, place search, name suggestion and site data, your browser contacts the providers listed under “Services and sources” directly. These providers receive your IP address and, depending on the function, the map section displayed or downloaded, the place name searched for or the coordinate of the centre of the area. Your own map key goes only to the provider it belongs to. Outlines, area names, tree species, guards, dates, owners and notes are not sent to any of these providers.
- Treemulator server: the server receives your IP address every time the website is accessed. It does not store any information from the app.
Treemulator saves the backup, the table, the KML file and the calendar file only on your device. Treemulator passes the report to your browser’s print dialog. You decide yourself who receives these files and printouts. Details are given in the privacy policy.
Availability and continued operation
The app is offered without any assurance of permanent availability. There is no entitlement to operation, further development or support. A shutdown of the website does not make the recorded data unusable. The data is stored in the browser on your own device, and the backup is a GeoJSON file that any geographic information system can read. There is therefore no dependence on the operator. Details are given in the privacy policy under “Discontinuation of the service”.
Reporting security vulnerabilities
If you find a vulnerability in Treemulator, please report it to the address above instead of publishing it. The operator reads and answers every report. Please do not include personal data of third parties.
Liability for content
The suggestions for tree species, plant numbers, materials and dates are based on general professional rules and on publicly available climate data. These suggestions replace neither a site mapping nor a professional assessment on site. The decision is made by the person responsible for the area. No guarantee is given for the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of the content.
Treemulator stores all information on areas, species and dates solely in the user’s browser. The operator has no access to it and therefore cannot restore lost data. The user, or the municipality or enterprise on whose behalf they work, is responsible for regular backups as a file (see the “Data” tab).
Liability for third-party services and websites
When loading the map, searching for places and retrieving site data, the browser contacts third-party services directly, such as OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap, Esri, swisstopo and the other survey offices, EOX, NASA GIBS and Open-Meteo. The full list is in the privacy policy. Each provider is responsible for the content of its service and for the accuracy of its data. The same applies to the websites to which Treemulator links.
Copyright
The design, program code and explanatory texts in the app are protected by copyright. Anyone who wishes to pass them on, reproduce or modify them beyond their own use requires the operator’s prior consent.
The map library Leaflet (© 2010–2023 Volodymyr Agafonkin, © 2010–2011 CloudMade) is an exception. It is supplied under the BSD 2-Clause licence. Map data and map images come from the providers named in the map and in the privacy policy and are subject to their own licences. The attribution appears at the bottom edge of the map.
